This was my first time creating a lesson plan using a 5E model. Personally, I was very engaged in redesigning this lesson because I want to start teaching my student the concepts of computational thinking and drawing conclusion from data as early as in September. I have been learning and discovering new ideas and integrating AI as tool to facilitate learning and create innovative ideas. Therefore, some of the tool that I used in the redesigned lesson plan are MagicSchool Teacher and Student versions. The possibilities that this this offers are endless (with some limitation of course) The idea behind the lesson is that I would have another period where I would spend time introducing my students to some new instructional tools that we might potentially be using next year in our classroom. I also incorporated the Padlet and Mentimeter in the redesigned version because I felt that these tool are a great way to engage learners and have an immediate response and feedback. Since we will also be focusing on data analysis understanding the impact and age appropriateness of these tool is vital. I felt that the original lesson was weaker in the sense that it did not seem to me as engaging and I wanted to have some student creative and innovative voice to be heard so I decided to include the AI image generator as a mean to build on that creativity and analysis based on the thoughts and ideas. The Google Survey was already a part of my original lesson. I use it often in my classroom to get a quick feedback from students. The questions that are being asked of them help students elaborate on their thoughts and also contribute to the dataset used later analysis. This data analysis and evaluation allows students to reflect on the results and draw meaningful conclusions and take action.
As far as the redesigned lesson plan, I think its’ strength lies in its engaging collaboration aspect and discussions are constantly being build on their collaborative thought process. What concerns me though is that this full reliance on technology might impact the flow of the lesson. However, I can always create a plan B if there are ever issues.
Overall, I feel that the 5E model of instruction helps me structure my lesson in a way that I have to put myself into the shoes of my students and ask myself if I would be able to do what I ask them to do and if I would be able follow along. Also, I have provided access to al of the materials that I have created for this lesson.
