Exploring My Name, Exploring My Identity in Spanish

In this redesigned learning activity, Exploring My Name, Exploring My Identity, students will engage in a reflective and creative process to explore the significance of their names and identities in Spanish. The activity is inspired by the My Name, My Identity Educator Toolkit and aims to help students understand how language and identity are intricately connected.

The activity encourages students to explore their personal stories, share their names, and reflect on their cultural backgrounds. By doing so, students will practice using basic Spanish language structures and vocabulary while enhancing their ability to express themselves authentically. As part of this activity, students will also utilize Canva to design a visual representation of their identity, incorporating text and images, and Padlet to share their final reflections with the class in an interactive and collaborative space.

This redesign integrates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure that all students, including those at the Novice-Low proficiency level in Spanish, can access and engage with the content. By offering multiple means of representation (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) and expression (written, spoken, and drawn), the activity supports diverse learning needs and fosters a deeper understanding of language as a tool for personal connection and cultural expression.

Additionally, this activity is evaluated using the Triple E Model, which focuses on:

Engagement: Encouraging students to deeply reflect on their identities and engage with the content creatively.
Enhancement: Using digital tools like Canva and Padlet to enrich students’ learning by offering them a chance to visually and interactively express their ideas.
Extension: Allowing students to connect their personal stories to a broader community, fostering communication and connection among peers.
