Redesigned learning activity using UDL
Multiple Means of Representation:
- Short engaging video to explain how technology can affect our emotions.
- Simple charts or pictures to show different emotions related to technology use and
feelings associated with technology. - Read aloud options to support students who have difficulty reading.
Multiple Means of Action and Expression:
- Allow students to choose how they express themselves, possibly through drawing a
picture, creating a story, or making a short video to express how they feel about
technology. - Provide tools like coloring sheets and story templates to help students organize their
ideas.
Multiple Means of Engagement:
- Offer choices in how students can explore the topic such as group discussions, individual
activities, or hands-on projects. - Connect the lesson to real-world situations, such as discussing how they feel when using
tablets or watching TV.
Digital Tools
Seesaw: Students can share their drawings, stories, and videos.
Book Creator: For creating simple digital stories.
Triple E Model
Engagement
Original Activity: Engages students through discussions and reflections.
Redesigned Activity: With the integration of Seesaw and Book Creator, engagement increases,
which allows students to express their thoughts creatively and interactively. Students can share
their drawings and stories through digital platforms, making learning more engaging and fun.
Enhancement
Original Activity: Students learn about the emotional impact of technology through traditional
methods.
Redesigned Activity: The integration of digital tools enhances learning by providing multiple
ways to represent information and express understanding. Seesaw allows for personal and
dynamic sharing of work, while Book Creator enables students to create simple digital stories.
These tools help the students have a better understanding and improve their ability to
communicate their ideas effectively.
Extension
Original Activity: Connects to students’ personal experiences with technology.
Redesigned Activity: Extends learning by connecting it to real-world situations and providing
opportunities for group discussions and working together. Students can discuss their experiences
with technology in group settings, conduct individual activities, and engage in hands-on projects.
This approach helps students apply their learning to real-life situations, making it more relevant
and meaningful.
Reflection
The original lesson plan focused on traditional methods, while the redesigned plan
incorporates UDL principles and digital tools to cater to diverse learning needs. This redesigned
lesson plan uses digital tools like Seesaw and Book Creator to make learning more accessible
and fun for all students. This redesigned activity offers different ways to present information,
express understanding, and engage students, making learning more accessible and effective.
With the use of Seesaw and Book Creator, the UDL principles are being implemented by making
learning interactive and creative, which improves accessibility and engagement. Although it
takes more time and resources to prepare, the redesigned lesson plan better meets the diverse
needs of all students to boost their engagement and understanding.
