Reflection on Instructional Design

The first lesson uses a task-based approach, which emphasizes practical application of vocabulary and grammar through interactive tasks. This approach promotes meaningful use of language, allowing students to actively participate and engage with the material through real-world tasks that encourage collaboration and personal connection to the learning objectives. However, the redesigned lesson follows the 5E Model which engages students progressively by guiding them through each stage (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) providing structured phases for vocabulary, grammar introduction, and a creative project where they describe their dream house. This scaffolded format is effective for developing conceptual understanding gradually, especially in language learning.

Engage: Prompting discussion about favorite rooms.

Explore: Practicing vocabulary and grammar.

Explain: Clarifying ser and estar in context.

Elaborate: Applying knowledge by creating and describing their dream house.

Evaluate: Reviewing descriptions to ensure understanding.

By integrating hands-on activities and peer sharing, the lesson supports diverse learning styles and maximizes engagement in vocabulary acquisition and grammar application.

Two Digital Tools needed for this lesson and how these tools will be used

Google Jamboard: Students can create and describe their “dream house” digitally using this collaborative whiteboard. As they practice Spanish vocabulary, students can easily modify and customize by adding sticky notes for room and furniture labels. Because students can work on their boards in real-time and share their works with the class with ease, Jamboard is particularly useful for collaborative projects.

Quizizz: Quizizz offers interactive, gamified tests that facilitate formative evaluation. You may make a test that covers grammar concepts like ser, estar, and prepositions as well as vocabulary related to rooms and furniture. The quiz can be finished by students alone or in a competitive, group setting, which helps to reinforce concepts and makes the study process enjoyable. Quizizz’s instant feedback feature aids students in immediately identifying and fixing errors.

Through real-time collaboration using Google Jamboard, students may graphically develop their grammar and vocabulary in an engaging, dynamic way. With its gamified reinforcement of important ideas (such as ser vs. estar) through quizzes, Quizizz keeps students interested while giving the teacher fast formative evaluation data. Both tools support student-centered learning and allow teachers to monitor progress, providing valuable data on areas needing further instruction.
