Become a Safe and Savvy Digital Citizen

Summary

I decided to create guidelines for my third grade class. I kept it to 5 because I want them to remember it easily. The infographic can be printed out, laminated and placed in their folders. I can also place a large copy in the classroom. I would use the slides to introduce the guidelines. The slides could also be used for a remote class.

I decided to focus on being a good digital citizen by creating the guideline of being positive, respectful and being an upstander. I also wanted my kids to protect their privacy and keep their digital footprint to a minimum. So I included the following guidelines: think before you post, be aware of cookies, visit valid websites and to create strong passwords. I focused on these guidelines because they are easy for my third graders to follow. It may be hard for them to use a two-step authentication process or a password manager.

Thanks to the National Cyber Security Center for creating my guidelines for digital privacy. Security 2023 Guide to Personal Digital Security and Online Safety.

Here is the infographic I created for my third grade students that highlights my guidelines to being a digital citizen. https://www.canva.com/design/DAFcXl_p8WY/tqSrn9_-JsG7lATOQaATyA/view?utm_content=DAFcXl_p8WY&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelink

Here are the slides that I will use to introduce my guidelines. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-5A4oHFnJtcPvMMqKQR1VInwnIgWbEofSsijGEvWHE4/edit?usp=sharing

Vanessa this was great. The slides that you made are informative and stimulating. The section on creating a strong password was my favorite part. It is one thing to say “make a strong password. Don’t share personal information” But you went a step further and gave examples of what personal information should never be shared.
