Description: This is a set of guidelines designed to promote responsible digital behavior among 9th-grade students in my Spanish classes, (Heritage Spanish students and Spanish as a second language students) about responsible and effective digital behavior. The guidelines cover important topics such as respectful communication, proper use of digital devices, online safety, academic integrity, and digital citizenship.
Presentation and Display:
Introduction: Students will brainstorm some behavior guidelines in a Spanish class.
Display the poster: Achieving an “A” as a Digital Student in English/ Spanish.
Go through each guideline and ask for examples and context-specific to the Spanish class. “¿Cómo aplicarías esta guia en nuestra clase de español?/ How would you apply this guideline in our Spanish class?”)
Encourage students to ask questions about the poster.
Guidelines:
1. Would I say this face-to-face?
Use polite language in emails, chat messages, and online discussions. Respect others’ opinions and respond thoughtfully.
2. Is my password safe and confidential?
Safeguard your accounts by using strong, unique passwords and updating them regularly. Refrain from sharing your passwords with anyone.
3. Would I be okay with anyone seeing this?
Think before you post. Respect the privacy of classmates and teachers by not sharing their information or photos without permission.
4. Is this my own work and properly credited?
Always give credit to original authors when using their ideas or information by citing sources properly.
5. Am I using my time wisely?
Use only teacher-approved apps and tools for learning and assignments. Avoid non-educational device use during class.
6. Is this source trustworthy?
Check the credibility of websites and authors before using information for assignments. Use multiple sources to confirm accuracy.
Reflection: Ask students to reflect on the importance of these guidelines and how they can help create a positive learning environment.
Have students write down one personal goal related to digital behavior they will work on during the school year.
