Revised Lesson: Exploring Descriptive Language with an Intro to Rhyming Words

Lesson Outline
Section 1: Introduction (15 minutes)
Objective: Engage students and introduce key concepts.
- Activity: Display an interactive slideshow with images and audio descriptions of weather conditions (sunny, stormy, etc.).
- Discussion: Ask students what kinds of weather they think of when they hear certain descriptive words.
- Materials: Interactive slideshow, digital projector.
Section 2: Vocabulary Exploration (20 minutes)
Objective: Determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
- Activity: Students will access a digital worksheet via their tablets or computers. The worksheet will include a vocabulary list and a word bank.
- Task: Students will classify words under “Stormy” or “Sunny” by dragging and dropping them into the correct column.
- Materials: Digital worksheets, tablets/computers.
Section 3: Reading Activity (30 minutes)
Objective: Read and determine content-specific language.
- Activity: Students will read “When the Moon is Full” using an online reader that includes text-to-speech and highlighting features for accessibility.
- Discussion: After reading, students will discuss in pairs the descriptive language used in the book.
- Materials: Online reader with accessibility features.
Section 4: Writing Activity (20 minutes)
Objective: Create a word bank and write sentences.
- Activity: Students will complete a digital worksheet to create a word bank of weather-related words. They will then use two words to write sentences, underlining each weather word.

Section 5: How’s the Weather Guessing Game? (15 minutes)
- Objective: To deepen retention of learning with an engaging game.
- Activity: Interactive guessing game in which students get asked how’s the weather. They have 10 rounds to respond and guess correctly.

Section 6: Assessment and Reflection (10 minutes)
Objective: Assess understanding and retention.
- Activity: Students will complete a short quiz on the content covered using i-Ready.
- Reflection: Students will share one thing they learned about descriptive language and rhyming words.
