Lesson Plan Grade: Kindergarten
Lesson Plan Objective: Frog Life Cycle
- Teacher will initiate lesson by asking students if they have ever seen a frog; and if they know how frogs grow and develop. Teachers will allow students to speak and discuss in class.
- Teacher directs all students to a short video (provide multiple means of representation) on the life cycle of a frog. The video provides closed captioning and subtitles.

- Teacher will have a coloring activity worksheet; while students are coloring, they will be asked questions to assess (provide multiple means of action and expression) their information retention (ex: What is a baby frog called?)

- Teacher will pair students into team. Each team will be given a set of laminated cards that have the different stages of a frog. They will be asked a question and must raise the correct laminated card (ex: Show me the frog eggs.). The team with the most points will be the line leaders for the week (provide multiple means of engagement)
The digital tools I used in the above lesson plan are the classroom Smart Board and YouTube.
I used the ASSURE model to evaluate my lesson plan. The ASSURE model has 6 steps and my lesson plan hits all the steps.
Step (A) – Analyze learners; this was done by listening in on their conversations during mealtimes to hear about the things they like.
Step (S) – State objectives; this was accomplished in the beginning of the lesson plan.
Step (S) – Select methods, media, and materials; this was done with the selection of videos, worksheets and manipulatives.
Step (U) – Utilize Technology, media, and materials; this was done by using YouTube and other resources.
Step (R) – Require learner participation; this was done with the pairing of students to form groups for a friendly game.
Step (E) – Evaluate and revise; assess the students informally and formally to see what worked and what needs to be tweaked.
Reflection:
My comparison of lessons would be between the lesson presented above (Lesson 1) and a lesson (Lesson 2) without any use of digital tools or manipulatives; just the teacher verbally explaining the concept. The strength of Lesson 1 would be the engagement; it is more likely and possible to grab your students’ attention with visuals. Young children love to watch videos and play games. Lesson 1 demonstrates great use of UDL because of the visuals, not only the images but the subtitles help those learners that may have a hearing impairment. Videos in other languages can be shared as well for those learners that speak another language. Lesson 2 is very limited, and you might be able to engage them for a small amount of time, but they probably will not retain much of the information.
